A facial oil serum for skin experiencing dullness, dryness, and uneven tone.

Two things happen in this bottle. Hibiscus carries naturally occurring alpha hydroxy acids, which loosen the dull, dead cells sitting on the surface so newer skin can show. Black castor oil and a long botanical infusion do the other half, feeding what is underneath so skin comes back supple.

Resurfacing usually costs you something. Skin looks brighter and also feels tight, pink, and in need of repair for a few days afterward. This one lifts and feeds in the same pass, which is why it can sit in your routine every day instead of twice a week.

Black castor oil is the base. The seeds are roasted, ground into a paste, and slowly boiled in water until the dark oil rises to the surface, where it is skimmed off by hand. Roasting is what turns it black instead of pale, and it is why this oil has more body than the castor oil on a pharmacy shelf. People have been making it this way for four thousand years, back to ancient Egypt. What it gives skin is a heavy reserve of naturally occurring fatty acids, the kind that soften and help skin hold the moisture it already has.

Into that oil we infuse rose flower, linden, elderflower, schisandra berry, fig, hibiscus, and milk thistle seed. Slowly, over weeks. A lab isolates compounds and rebuilds them with synthetics to hit a target. We start with the whole botanical oil and let the plants hand over what they carry.

Then it is finished with rose essential oil, rose absolute, frankincense, and myrrh. The Damask rose comes from Bulgaria's Rose Valley, gathered by hand in the early morning before the sun takes the aromatics out of the petals. It takes roughly 60,000 roses to produce one ounce of oil. You will understand that number the first time you open the bottle. The rose arrives bright and then settles into something deeper, warmed by the two resins underneath it.

What it does

Tone looks more even and brighter across the first few weeks as dull surface cells give way. Skin feels supple and conditioned instead of tight. The finish is soft and faintly luminous.

Who it is for

Any skin that runs dry, tight, or dull. Mature skin tends to feel the difference fastest, and nothing here is age specific.

How to use

Step 06, morning and night. Warm three to five drops between your palms, then press into clean, damp skin.

The hibiscus AHAs leave skin more reactive to sunlight, so be careful with long stretches of direct sun while you are using this one.
