4 Facts Friday: Hydration Is More Than Just Drinking Water

Posted by Brecklee Gale on

This week, we’re pouring into the topic of hydration. Not just the “drink more water” kind, but the deep, cellular kind that restores, replenishes, and revives your whole body. Especially in summer, when the heat is on and energy is zapped, your hydration game matters more than ever.

You have probably already heard that feeling thirsty means you are already dangerously past dehydration, but let me put it this way: Thirst is your body’s SOS. It is already working overtime to make up for the lack of hydration. It means your cells have already started losing water, your blood is slightly thicker, and your internal systems are beginning to compensate for the fluid loss. Remember, our cells are hydroelectric. They RUN on water.

Keep reading to discover more about natural ways to keep your body hydrated. If you are looking for a deeply hydrating body balm to keep your skin feeling soft and supple, check out Rise 66. Doubles as a bug repellent and is perfect for summer excursions or to use at home as a part of your daily ritual.

Healthy Living Tip

Not all water is created equal. To truly hydrate your body at the cellular level, go beyond just quantity and focus on quality.

✨ Here’s how:

  • Add a pinch of Celtic salt under your tongue before sipping on water to replenish trace minerals and support electrolyte balance.

  • Infuse your water with cucumber, mint, lemon, or berries to encourage steady sipping and boost your antioxidant intake.

  • Use a glass or stainless-steel bottle instead of plastic to avoid endocrine-disrupting chemicals like BPA.

  • Make water a sacred ritual: start your morning with a slow, mindful glass of water to wake up your digestive system and energy.

Water nourishes your skin, supports detox, regulates temperature, cushions joints, and even sharpens brain function. Staying hydrated isn’t just about drinking, it’s about absorption.

Recipe I’m Loving

This mineral-rich tonic is perfect for restoring hydration after time in the sun, a workout, or anytime your body is craving a replenishing boost. It’s packed with natural electrolytes and anti-inflammatory ingredients to help your cells absorb water more efficiently.

Cucumber Citrus Refresher

Ingredients:

2 cups filtered water (or coconut water for extra potassium)
1/2 cucumber, thinly sliced
Juice of 1 lemon
Juice of 1/2 orange
1 tsp raw honey (or maple syrup)
1/8 tsp Celtic salt
Optional: a few fresh mint leaves or a dash of ginger juice

Instructions:

  1. Add all ingredients to a glass jar or pitcher and stir well.

  2. Let infuse for 10–15 minutes (or longer for deeper flavor).

  3. Serve over ice, garnished with citrus slices or cucumber ribbons.

Natural Living DIY

I don’t know that there could be a simpler DIY than this one, and that is because it requires little but offers a lot. It is this… spend time near water.

Being near water in nature such as rivers, lakes, oceans, even small creeks isn’t just peaceful. It’s profoundly healing. And there’s science, spirit, and soul behind why.

🌊 The sound of moving water (waves lapping, brooks babbling) activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which slows heart rate, reduces cortisol levels, and helps us shift from "fight or flight" into "rest and restore." Even visually observing water can lower stress and anxiety.

💦 Water is a natural conductor and cleanser of energy. Spiritually and energetically, it’s considered purifying. Standing barefoot near water amplifies the benefits of grounding or connecting your body to the earth’s electrical charge, which helps reduce inflammation and improve sleep and energy.

💧We tend to breathe more deeply and slowly when we're near water, naturally entering a more meditative state. Oxygenation improves our mood, brain function, and cellular health.

Incorporate time spent near water into your life today. It is life-changing.

Something I’m Pondering

Focusing on your body and truly listening to its needs is an act of self-love. A daily rhythm of remembrance that your body is a temple. It is worthy of nourishment, saturated in life, and flowing with divine design.

I’m learning that true hydration isn’t just about quenching thirst… It’s about returning to wholeness. Listening to what my body is whispering before it begs. Choosing to replenish from the inside out, cell by sacred cell.

If we take a moment to truly listen, our bodies tell us what they need. All we need is to be still long enough to hear.

I’m here with you on this journey of whole body wellness.
