What “Clean Beauty” Really Means (And What It Doesn’t)

Posted by Jaime Cross on

The first time I saw the phrase “clean beauty” is still engrained in my mind like it was yesterday. It was printed in soft blush tones on a glass bottle at a department store, the kind of branding that speaks “pure” and “safe.”

But when I turned the label over,  I found a long list of ingredients that didn’t belong anywhere near the skin… fillers, synthetics, hidden fragrances cloaked under “natural derivatives.” Ew.

I remember thinking, If this is clean… what does dirty look like?

You see, “clean” has become a trend word. A marketing term.

But to me, clean has always meant something far deeper.

It’s not just about what’s left out. It’s about what’s put in.

True cleanliness honors life. It honors the microbiome, the terrain, the living intelligence of your skin. This is why you’ll always see us say Clean and Living.

When I formulate, I think of the skin not as a canvas to cover or correct,  but as a living organ created to communicate.

Every oil, every herb, every infusion I use has to support that communication, never silence it.

You’ll never find fillers, synthetic stabilizers, or lab-made “natural” scents in The Alchemy Code.

No PEGs. No silicones. No isolated actives stripped from their living counterparts. Because when we separate the parts from the whole, we lose the very vital force that makes nature powerful.

Instead, we blend ingredients in their full-spectrum form including cold-pressed oils, botanical infusions, minerals, and enzymes that are beneficial or alive with nutrients. Every formula begins with sustainably sourcing, from the wild, or soil and seed to farmer and harvest, ensuring purity that can’t be faked on a label.

That’s what clean beauty means to me.
Not sterile. Not minimal.
But living and intelligent.

When you use our Balms, Serums, and Oils, you’re partnering with your body’s own Beauty Code..

And once you feel that kind of resonance on your skin, you’ll never mistake “clean” for marketing again.

If you’re curious where to begin, I always tell people to start simple:
cleanse and hydrate with living botanicals that are created with a Balance Point like ours, Where each element, lipid, mineral, herb, and time, meet in perfect proportion. Not too alkaline, not too acidic, just right for the body’s natural terrain.

That’s the alchemy.
