Why I Don’t Use Cocoa Butter In Our Remedies

Did you know that before I ever started working with beeswax as a medium, I was formulating with cocoa butter?
It was one of my first fats - beloved for its richness, but I quickly realized it had limitations. The texture was often grainy, and the results just didn’t compare… Not to mention, cocoa butter is comedogenic, meaning it clogs pores. I can’t tell you how many batches I attempted a perfectly creamy blend, but it was never quite right. And the breakouts… I always test ingredients on my own skin before sharing them with others.
Cocoa butter sat on the skin. Beeswax, on the other hand, absorbed beautifully and worked with it.
Honey and beeswax are profoundly functional, and I like to think there’s biblical wisdom in using them, too. Time and again, honey is woven through stories of healing, nourishment, and divine provision.
And when it comes to your skin, that same wisdom applies.
Honey humectants draw moisture deep into the skin's layers. Beeswax forms a protective veil, locking in hydration while allowing your skin to regenerate on a cellular level. You could wrap a skin injury in pure honey and wax with oil and it would shock you at the healing that takes place.
Each of our balms begins with our golden wax, which is melted and slowly infused with our herbal oils. Whether it’s calendula steeped in tallow or wild clover infused in castor, the result becomes something even more powerful:
A delivery system. A protector. A balm that carries nature’s intelligence straight into the skin.
It’s why our Body BalmsFacial Balms, and Recovery Sticks perform the way they do. Rooted in the wisdom of the hive, the earth, and the Healer.
And it’s why so many beautiful people tell us:
“I’ve never experienced anything like this.”
For a glow that stops the show, start with a balm. Let your skin feel the difference. Let it receive what it was made for.
