Desert seasons, loneliness, and feeling lost…

Desert seasons, loneliness, and feeling lost…

Posted by Jaime Cross on

Recently, a friend reached out and expressed extreme loneliness, feelings of being lost, and in a desert season.

And she’s not alone.

Over the past few months, I’ve heard this same cry from friends, community members, and even new acquaintances. It seems like so many are walking through invisible battles, unsure of how to find their footing again.

But these seasons can be our greatest teachers.

From 2020 to early 2025, my family and I faced some of the hardest challenges of our lives. We endured near-death accidents, illness, three moves in one year due to black mold, and the hard work of finding our rhythm again in a new city, with new people. It tested everything: our marriage, our faith, and our resilience.

And yet, we are stronger, more bonded, and more at peace than ever before.

We didn’t arrive here by chance. We strategized. We reached deeper levels of faith and found our voice. And more than anything, we clung to each other and to God through it all.

In my years of helping people activate their God-given gifts, empower their true beauty, and reclaim wholeness, I can say emphatically that these seasons are meant to be a gift. Having this mindset shift can help you reduce stress greatly.

If you are feeling these things, I understand the season you're in more than I could possibly express. We might even be able to swap war stories and share some battle wounds from walking through similar deserts.

If I may be so bold as to offer this, what you’re experiencing could more than likely be a season of transition. And transition can often feel like we’re losing ground, being pulled back, or even set aside. But so often, it's the divine setup for something deeper: new growth, new glory, and even a new way of discovering new levels of faith.

It also means shedding, and that process is almost always marked by a sense of loneliness. However, please know that you are not alone.

There is a Secret Place where you are being built up and prepared to step into more greatness. Today, as I write this, I’m praying that clarity, peace, and the tangible nearness of God’s presence wrap around you like a blanket in this season.

Loneliness might be one of the hardest things we feel and can ever go through, but I’ve found it can also be one of our greatest teachers. You, my friend, have drive and purpose to do so much because God has BIG things in store for you. Keep pressing in there and don’t lose heart. You will reap a harvest if you don’t give up!
