Is Detoxing Overhyped or Essential?

Is Detoxing Overhyped or Essential?

Want to look and feel your best? Let’s talk shop…
Yesterday, I watched a plastic surgeon rating detox protocols on a scale of 1 to 10. He was pretty cynical, and honestly, I found it a little ironic—watching someone who profits off cosmetic alterations (that’s his area of expertise) dismiss natural healing. But he did make a couple of good points worth considering.
These days, it seems like every other health influencer is peddling detox teas, powders, and biohacks. Some are solid. Many are just hype wrapped in shiny marketing.
And I get asked all the time…
“Should I do a detox?”
“Where do I start?”
It’s easy to get overwhelmed. But I want to help you cut through the noise with a few timeless principles—the kind that actually work.
Right now, I’m 62 days into the most intense cleanse I’ve ever done. This isn’t just a phase—it’s the culmination of over a decade of studying detoxification, healing, and nourishment. And let me tell you: shedding years of junk—body, mind, and spirit—is transformational.
I want you to know:
Whatever your struggle… your body can heal. Your skin can glow again.
And yes—detoxing is part of that process.
Your body is designed to do two things:
  • Heal itself
  • Cleanse itself
But here's the truth: unless you're living on a raw, organic diet with zero stress and no environmental exposure, your body needs support. Detoxing isn’t a trend—it’s a necessity in today’s world. I mean, if you go into the history of healing, and how modern science backs up the benefits of these ancient practices, such as fasting, we know people have been using cleanses and detoxes for millennia.
Let’s start here: Imagine first that the first step in detoxing is to stop “toxing” the body.
4 Simple Ways to Stop Toxing and Start Detoxing
  1. Eat Living Food.
“Toxing” looks like dead food at every meal. Think: processed, packaged, cooked, microwaved.
Swap it for fruits, fresh juices, smoothies, salads, sprouted seeds, and living greens.
  2. Use Clean Products.
If it touches your skin, it touches your bloodstream.
Swap chemical-laden soaps, shampoos, and lotions for naturalwaterless, living ingredients. (Start with your soap and lotion—you’ll be amazed at the difference.)
  3. Stay Hydrated.
Being dehydrated is a form of toxicity.
Drink half your body weight in ounces daily. Start each morning with warm water, fresh-squeezed lemon, and a pinch of cayenne to wake up your system.
  4. Wear Natural Fibers.
Synthetic clothing traps heat, chemicals into your bloodstream, and disrupts your skin’s ability to breathe.
Swap it out for cotton, linen, silk, and other natural, breathable fabrics.
These steps may seem small, but they compound. They lighten the load. They give your body the space it needs to do what it was created to do.
Right now, I feel like I could fly.

This cleanse has pushed me through phases of healing I never expected—from intense candida die-off to full-body hives and layers of mucus release. Not to mention a lot of tears and overcoming the mental game of diagnoses and fear.

(TMI? Maybe. But we don’t talk about this enough—and it matters.)
