Avoid These Microtears and Why Soap Matters More Than We May Think

Avoid These Microtears and Why Soap Matters More Than We May Think

Posted by Jaime Cross on

I remember thinking in a crazy loop a few years ago about all the body does without us even thinking about it. While we sleep, we’re still breathing, our heart still beats, we wake up differently than when we went to bed.

Every day, unbeknownst to us, this incredible body of ours is performing beauty miracles of protection.

Behind your eyes, in your nose, your mouth, lungs, and even your skin, and yes… even down there, there are living gateways called mucus membranes.

These thin, delicate linings that we never think much about are designed to defend and nourish.

We want to avoid microtears in these areas and protect them at all costs.

Think of them as your body’s natural silk armor filtering toxins, absorbing nutrients, and maintaining the balance between your inner world and the outer one.

But here’s the truth few people know: what you wash with directly impacts these membranes.

Soap vs. Detergent: Why It Matters

Traditional soap is crafted from oils and natural fats that bind with dirt and gently lift it away. It cleans without stripping the protective microbiome IF it is properly balanced and formulated. Something I am really proud to say ours are. I made sure of that when I started studying natural healing and botanical formulation. Remember… the recipe matters as much as the ingredients.

Most commercial detergents, however, are synthetic. They break down oil using harsh surfactants that dissolve not only grime but also the lipid barrier and the layer that supports your skin and mucus membranes.

Over time, detergents cause tiny microtears, dryness, and inflammation that extend beyond your skin to affect the entire system of mucosal protection:

How to Protect and Supercharge Your Mucus Membranes
  1. Use real SOAP like ours that has a Balance Point…
A Balance Point is where each element including lipid, mineral, herb, and time, meet in perfect proportion. Not too alkaline, not too acidic, just right for the body’s natural terrain. Choose cold-processed bars made with nourishing oils, herbs, and beeswax that are gentle enough for every inch of you.

  2. Feed your flora.
Hydrosols, aloe, and probiotic botanicals (like those in our toners) help restore the skin’s microbiome.

  3. Hydrate.
Drink mineral-rich water and herbal infusions daily using herbs such as nettles, alfalfa, dandelion, and more. Moisture keeps membranes resilient.

  4. Breathe and sweat.
Movement circulates lymph, flushing toxins and oxygenating tissues especially vital in cold months.

  5. Let there be light.
Ancient cultures understood the power of the sun to heal the hidden parts of the body. A few minutes of safe, private sun exposure even through thin clothing or near a window, can help increase circulation, balance hormones, and boost vitality “down there,” especially in the darker winter months.
(Think of it as photosynthesis for humans.)

When your mucus membranes are thriving, your immunity sharpens, your skin glows, and your body hums in harmony with nature.

That’s why at Alchemy Code, we formulate and handcraft (think farm-not-factory) every remedy, from Soap to Serum, with your whole system in mind.

Remember, true beauty is a lifestyle of courage, freedom, and healing and it’s all yours for the taking.
