I’ll never forget opening shipments of essential oils, butters, and raw materials for the very first time 15 years ago. Shea butter from Africa, olive oil from Italy, and botanicals from every corner of the earth.
We poured every extra penny from Nathan’s teacher’s salary into ordering those ingredients and building our little business from the ground up.
It became a ritual of sorts to gather round our small kitchen table, experience the aromas and textures, and we would dream about the day we could go to the places where they were grown, and explore the land, meet the people, and learn the rhythms of the regions that gave them life.
Once I started studying the source of each ingredient, down to the details of the villages and animals native to each oil, herb, or plant butter, the aromas came to life… our products came to life. A simple bar of soap and an innovative lotion bar became a transport to adventure, culture, the wild, and the bigness of life.
Did you know that eucalyptus comes from a world where towering blue-green trees sway in the breeze of the Australian bush… where koalas curl into the crooks of branches, dozing among the very leaves that give this oil its strength?
Eucalyptus trees are native to Australia, specifically the southern and eastern regions, where the air is fresh, the soil is rich, and the forests are alive with birdsong and marsupials. There are over 700 species, but only a few are used to extract this essential oil.
The oil itself is steam-distilled from the leathery leaves of the tree. It’s a process that requires patience and precision, carefully extracting the healing compounds without compromising their potency. The result is a vibrant, camphorous oil with a penetrating aroma and powerful benefits for both skin and spirit.
