Cravings? What do they mean?

Cravings? What do they mean?

Posted by Jaime Cross on

During my pregnancy with each of the boys, I found myself eating clay and dirt, and craving plaster, sheetrock, and laundry detergent quite often because my body so fiercely craved it.

I’ll never forget telling my OB—who delivered Judah and two of our other boys—about these wild cravings. He chuckled and said, “You licked the top of the cleaning solution, didn’t you?” LOL. Every time I watered the plants, I wanted to dive face-first into a bowl of dirt and eat every ounce.

Such a strange thing, but these cravings were more than mere desire, they were messengers indicating depletion in my body.

No doctor ever told me that there was a deeper need going on, something I had to discover on my own.

Years of studying, listening to my body, and walking with clients through their own journeys have made it clear:

Mineral depletion, detox needs, and the urgency of nourishment at a cellular level are at the forefront of all cravings.

Cravings aren’t random.

They’re intelligent signals.

And when we decode them, we gain power.

Here’s a simple guide to help you understand what your cravings may be trying to tell you. It’s not an exhaustive list, but will help you begin exploring:

Here’s something most people don’t realize:

Sugar and processed foods are intentionally designed to be addictive. They hijack your brain chemistry, dull your taste buds, and leave you trapped in a cycle of cravings that have nothing to do with what your body truly needs.

But here’s the beautiful truth: when you begin fueling your cravings with real food, your body starts to wake up. Over time, you’ll reprogram your taste buds and shift what your body naturally desires.

As you nourish with fruits, vibrant greens, and delicious, colorful salads, your body remembers. It begins to crave life-giving nutrients instead of the fake hits of sugar and chemicals. During my recent 90-day fast, I absolutely fell in love with rich greens, purple onion, veggies of all sorts, and fruit to boot.

You’re not broken.
You’re simply being called back to real nourishment.

When you answer that call, everything changes: your energy, your cravings, your entire relationship with food and health.
